Welcome to Major League Strategy, a new blog I've decided to write over here at the Blogger. Over the past few MLS seasons, I've taken a couple of stabs at writing about the league. The main thread of all of this desire has been to basically air my views on the business side of MLS, the strategy that surrounds the teams, their brands, and the shape of the game in America. So today I've decided to just bite the bullet, and realize that the internet is not rocket science. If I want a place to vent my ADD brainstorms about MLS, the internet will provide, and I hope there are others out there that share my interest in the ongoing development of Major League Soccer. The league has been, for most of its existence, an exercise in forward thinking, and now more than ever, there is plenty of opportunity to take a step back and talk about the American soccer landscape.
However, I'll say it now that this is not a news site. This is not a rumors site. I may react to trending topics as my blogging whims suit me, but I firmly intend to keep this site on the outer skirts of the timely news cycle. Given the usual tight seal on any kind of actual news from the league, and the ever-present actual journalism of people like Ives and Goff, it does not make sense for me to try to keep up. Random predictions and speculation? Of course. Post-mortem commentary? Absolutely. The in-between real-time stuff is just not going to be my strength.
I hope to add something to this mixed-up conversation we have in this country, and I hope its not too much noise.
